As a long time resident of Wiltshire I’ve become fascinated by its ancient, as well as more modern, history. We have some of the world’s most famous monuments on our doorstep and many tourist honey traps. One such honey trap is Castle Combe, close to the borders with Somerset and Gloucestershire. Castle Combe itself is a picture postcard village of honey coloured stone cottages and its village centre Cross. For much of the year the village is a sea of visitors so on my last visit I decided to explore the surrounding area with its connection to the Bronze Age and the Romans.
My walk turned into something of an epic. A 13.5 mile hike which became the subject of a blog I wrote for Hidden Wiltshire together with the photographs I took on the way.
